Album Ratings and Reviews

Artist: Usher
Album: Confessions
Label: LaFace Records
Rating: 4 STARS

This album produced one of the greatest dance songs ever - which later turned into one of the most over-played and annoying songs ever created. You can only listen to "Yeah" so many times before you just want to punch Lil Jon and Usher in the face. (Ludacris is in the clear, for now) But Usher definitely made up for it on his second single, "Burn". This song, along with many others on the album, shows a more mature Usher. The singer pours his heart out about heartbreak, (possible) fatherhood, and love lost. Some of the certified hits on the album consist of "Do It To Me", "Throwback" and "That's What It's Made For" which was produced by the hit-machine Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. One thing that many people love about Usher is the fact that he can make you dance and cry. Usher is all grown up and this album is proof. What a way to step into manhood!

Artist: Jet
Album: Get Born
Label: Elektra/Asylum
Rating: 4 STARS

Alright, I'll admit that the first I heard "Are You Gonna Be My Girl?" the first thing that popped into my head was "what the hell is this?" But by the end of the day (and after hearing it about 12 times) I was sold. It's one of the catchiest songs ever written and the rhythm is contagious. How can you not like this song? Seriously didnt think that they would be able to follow that up but they proved me wrong with their second single, "Cold Hard Bitch". But for all of you people out there that think these guys are a one-trick pony, you got another thing coming! Their album not only has more upbeat, fast paced tracks like these "Rollover D.J." and "Get Me Outta Here" but they also have ballads like, "Move On" and "Come Around Again". The ballads are good but I say, if it ain't broke don't fix it. These guys should definitely stick with what got them to where they are now, bass thumping, heart pumping, head bobbing rock!

Artist: D12
Album: D12 World
Label: Shady Records
Rating: 3 STARS

Eminem never seems to disappoint, but can the same be said for all of D12? If the rest of the album reads like their first single, "My Band" then the answer is yes. This album is the perfect follow up to their debut album "Devil's Night". They always make sure to give you music that will make you laugh, move and feel. Even though the fun tracks like "I'll Be Damned" are good but I personally go for the harder stuff like "40 .OZ". The lyrical content is a step up from last time and shines light on their skills are writers, not just rappers. They needed this album to be exactly what it is, solid. Their first album was okay, but it didn't show their full potential. Kudos to D12 for stepping up their game.
